Black and white ASSATEAGUE WILD HORSES

Wild Horses of Assateague Island

I finally had the chance to photograph the famous wild horses of Assateague Island in Maryland. I cannot believe I waited more than 10 years before visiting this place. We are only about 2 hours away.

Photographing these wild horses was quite an experience. According to local folklore these horses are descendants of animals that survived a 17th century shipwreck off the coast of Virginia. It is incredible to watch them roam around this tiny island they consider their home for many centuries now.

Hope you enjoy the following photographs. I chose black and white photography to remove the distractions and focus on the beauty of each of these creatures. However, I left one image in color to show how magnificent the sky is during sunset at the island. When you have the chance to travel to the coast of Maryland and Virginia, check out this beautiful island and witness the beauty of its longtime residents – the wild horses of Assateague Island.
